I am fearfully and wonderfully made

In the Bible theres a verse that says, 'I am fearfully and wonderfully made' (Psalm 139:14). These words can sometimes be hard to believe, especially if we look at the Instagram world that we live in.

Social media can often make me feel emotionally drained and not good enough. Constantly seeing pictures of people’s perfectly polished lives and bodies can sometimes make me believe that that's is what my life is supposed to like too.

It’s important to remember that most of what we see on social media is the highlight reel of people's lives. They show the best moments of their day, but hardly anyone wants to share their bad moments.

The Bible tells us that we are children of God, and as children of God, we have a destiny and purpose.

God has a plan for you.

In Jeremiah 29:11 it says, '"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."'

When we know that we have been created by a loving Father in heaven who has a purpose for our lives, we can live in confidence and freedom. We don't have to worry about what the world may think of us.

This can be a lot easier said than done. Sometimes, I still struggle with feeling good enough when I scroll through my news feed. But I make an effort to remember that I am loved and that he has a plan for me.

Make time to be off social media.

Below are a few tips to help your mind stay healthy when on social media:

  1. Make time to be off social media. A detox once in a while is a great thing.
  2. Don’t be afraid to unfollow accounts that make you feel low or not good enough.
  3. Surround yourself with good friends who you feel comfortable talking to. Having friendships where we can be vulnerable with others helps us realise that we not alone in this. Freedom can be found when we share with others.
  4. Stay close to God. When we draw near to him, he draws near to us. The best way to live a life knowing you have been created with purpose and hope, is by getting to know our creator himself. I like to do this by reading his words in the Bible, talking to him in prayer throughout the day, and listening to worship music.

So the next time you start to doubt your purpose or adequacy, remember, there is an adventure out there for you. God knows every step of your way, and he wants to go on it with you.
