You may know her from her early days on Disney TV, her sell-out music career, or maybe you’ve spotted her during lockdown doing her cooking show Selena + Chef.

Wherever in your life, or in your news feed, that she pops up, keep an eye out for her, she’s got a lot of important things to say.

Selena Marie Gomez was born and raised in Texas. She first appeared on our screens with Demi Lovato in the children’s TV program ‘Barney & Friends’.

She became a fan favourite on lots of Disney Channel shows and with her stage presence, it was no surprise that she wanted to breakthrough to music. According to Billboard, Gomez has sold over seven million albums and 22 million singles worldwide.

Selena has made it clear to her fans that her life is far from perfect.

She’s now living in a $4.9 million mansion in California, has a make-up and clothing line. Sounds perfect doesn’t it? Selena has made it clear to her fans that it is far from perfect, which is one of the reasons why she is such an inspiration.

Working from the media from such a young age has solidified Selena Gomez as a role model for a lot of young people, and this comes with a lot of responsibility.

According to Elle, Gomez said “I'm human, I'm not perfect. I make mistakes all the time, but I guess my job is to keep those mistakes to myself, which I'm already fine doing and just try to be the best I can be for those kids.”

In order to be the role model that she’d like to be, she has to hide a lot of her mistakes and this strive for perfection has caused her to struggle with mental health problems for a large portion of her life.

She has gone viral recently for her unfiltered picture on Instagram.

Her make-up line, ‘Rare Beauty’ fights against unrealistic beauty standards and she has gone viral recently for her unfiltered picture on Instagram. By showing the true side of herself, rather than pretending to be perfect she can inspire others to do the same.

Gomez opened up about her Christian faith and said that after her single ‘Lose you To Love Me’ was released, she felt Jesus reassure her that he will stay by her side and support her.

Her faith has enabled her to grow in her field of work and helped her to recover from her struggles with the illness lupus. From this, I hope we can all feel inspired to engage in support that is offered to us and strive to achieve even if we feel that it’s impossible.

She uses her media platform to help charities.

Despite struggling in her personal life, she uses her media platform to help charities such as UNICEF to raise money and to gain publicity. By doing this, she is an inspiration to other famous people who will hopefully follow in her footsteps.

Not only that, but she will hopefully encourage us all to embrace our natural beauty and to stay strong in difficult times.
