The secret to being beautiful

I’ll let you in on a little secret that I’ve learned: Beauty varies.

A pretty face can only take you so far in life, and I say this as a young adult, with a “pretty face”, who had to come to terms with being so much more when she thought she was not pretty enough.

For me, I put my inner beauty first, and then my outer beauty gets better as I grow and my inner beauty improves. So imagine how much better this face can look cause hey, I’m still growing!

The gag though is, I found myself being part of a pageant recently. So tell me this, how does one go from not feeling pretty to entering a competition that first highlights looks?

When you focus on your inner beauty, it will be reflected in your outer beauty.

It’s because I came to learn that when you focus on your inner beauty, it will be reflected in your outer beauty.

You might be thinking, “How can I improve my inner beauty?” Well let me tell you, pretty words and affirmations alone will not do the trick. You need to go to the essence of your being and the root of your creation.

To be beautiful is to be wise. It’s to have essence, substance, meaning, and purpose.

Now allow me to let you into another beautiful secret: You have a reason for existing, therefore you are beautiful. Genesis 1:27 and Jeremiah 1:5 in the Bible confirm this.

In Genesis, the beginning of our creation story, it says, "God created human beings in his own image". Then in Jeremiah, it explains, "I [God] knew you, before I formed you in your mother's womb". These are the first truths you need to acknowledge to know that you are beautiful.

Do you believe your parents are beautiful?

Let me leave you with a couple of questions to think about. Do you believe your parents are beautiful, and that their parents are beautiful?

Well God took his time to mold them into his image, so what makes you think that he has made so many generations of beautiful people in your lineage, but somehow made you less beautiful?

As with everyone else, God took his time to mold you and wants you to be part of his ‘royal family’. This means, as you accept this truth and accept him into your life, you can rest in knowing that "You are beautified in glory, grace, and essence".

The more you embrace and focus on this truth, the more it will transform your inner beauty. And ultimately, this will be reflected in your outer beauty.

Take the words in this poem away with you:

"Don't sleep on the fact He called you royalty,
Your essence He’s ordained to carry beauty in its blood line.
Created in His lineage to stand in His stead,
Dear King and Queen,
Build your throne from within,
Recognise your worth,
Carry your head high.
Beautified you were made from mere dust
To reflect the Glory of the truly greatest one
And the world in turn will adorn you due diligence,
Cause you carry within you what mere eyes can never fully comprehend.
So reflect this ordinance in every form, sphere and space,
Cause when you act, walk, talk and think beautiful,
You become beautiful."
